The much-anticipated second season of the adult animated musical series Hazbin Hotel debuts on Prime Video soon, and fan speculation has been intense.
Season 1 presents a diverse group of personalities living within the afterlife, sets them at odds accompanied by musical numbers about their clashes, and establishes tense rivalries and angsty, affectionate connections that fuel fan obsession.
The fandom's stated hopes for the new season vary widely, but certain threads recur frequently: Could a fan-favorite character escape his tormentor? Might we learn more about the binding agreement affecting the enigmatic Alastor? Might certain characters' relationships evolve?
"Naturally, I don't make the show with fan service specifically in mind," the creator stated earlier this year. "However I believe that me being a fan of my own show means there's a lot of it just naturally. I also am eager for these things, and I want some of these things to happen, and clearly some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
She says her big-picture plan is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Future installments have already been green-lit by the production companies, which finance the series.
That might mean viewers have to be patient for some of the major resolutions — but they may be surprised at how fast the new season moves, and how much of what they're anticipating happens this season.
"I believe people are going to be highly satisfied," the creator notes. "We get some firsts. I think we receive some really amazing reveals, some fascinating origin tales, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] We're going to hear much more singing from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
The creator is well-informed of the guesses and hopes about season 2 — particularly in the form of audience prediction charts.
"I've seen a couple people make a prediction grid about the new season," she mentions. "Obviously I won't share it, but I've already completed a few items, and almost all of them have almost a bingo. I thought, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we do a lot [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I realized, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel season 2 launches on Prime Video on October 29.
