This New Horror Film Can Be Streamed, and It Has the Power to Test Your Romantic Bond.

Here's a dare for long-term couples who appreciate scary movies: Get comfortable with your loved one and view Together. The independent film success of 2025 just made its streaming debut via Hulu. Outwardly, it may seem like standard body horror, but within Together exists a deep contemplation about how we choose to love one another.

An Introductory Film Delving into Partnership Complexities

Together represents the introductory feature for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It showcases Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Millie and Tim, partners that have stayed together for ten years. Having wed in real life in 2017, Franco and Brie contribute a particular energy to their characters, skillfully embodying both the good and bad of a enduring union.

The narrative commences when the couple relocate from the urban environment to the countryside for Millie’s job. A familiar plot device, of course, but that’s largely where the conventions cease. Together becomes as much a deep dive into the psyche of the couple's dynamic as it is a body horror flick.

A Paranormal Spark

While hiking near their rural residence, a tempest descends, and the two discover an hole in the earth. After being trapped overnight there and finally finding a way out, a supernatural entity takes hold of the couple. This force induces a supernatural closeness between them that goes exceeding emotional intimacy.

The whole movie is a gradually intensifying fright fest, blending elements of dreamlike terrors, unsettling (but not excessively graphic) body horror, and genuinely funny dialogue (sometimes amidst something grotesque). The director weaves these elements together expertly and presents them in a consistently growing sense of impending doom.

Nuanced Portrayals

A great deal of Together is solely the performances of its stars, and they deftly portray countless layers to the characters’ relationship. Her self-assurance and emotional bond is suffering due to a distance. Her underlying frustration of Tim for his hesitance to chase only his struggling artistic pursuits gradually emerges.

Conversely, Tim experiences isolation and separated by Millie, who’s the cause they’ve relocated rural and distant from his network of friends. He dreads the notion of utterly sacrificing his personal autonomy in his partner. This fear is further exacerbated by the reality he can’t drive and needs Millie for getting around.

The director's cleverest decision in Together refrains from painting either of his characters the obvious villain.

Tim and Millie confront the kind of problems that come with any relationship after ten years. Fundamentally, they continue to care for one another. They still laugh together, provide solace, and open up at times. But below this facade, there’s an unavoidable undercurrent of doubt about their future together.

Thematic Depth

While the otherworldly presence in Together symbolize these anxieties of excessive reliance and fully committing to a partner, the allegory does not come across as hamfisted or self-important. Instead, these visceral horror elements present a perfect parallel to the character-driven drama. Both the frights and the fights serve the other symbiotically.

A Divisive Ending

Together’s conclusion, which won’t be spoiled here, has left audiences divided on the story's concluding statement about enmeshed dynamics. Reports indicate that single viewers have seen the movie as a compelling reason for staying single. Meanwhile, a few pairs experiencing tension found that the film ended up guiding them to resolve their issues.

If you are alone or with a partner, your own reaction could function as a great barometer of how you perceive partnership. Will the conclusion inspire feelings of uneasiness and dread, or a positive outlook on love? Will you identify in Tim or Millie and feel frustration, or simply glance toward your partner and utter, “I understand that choice”?

Regardless of the outcome, Together is an experiment you can embark on today.

Together is currently playing on the streaming service Hulu as of this moment.
